Updated Gatsby Benchmarks for 2025/26
Improving young people's preparedness for optimal outcomes, reducing NEET
(not-in-education, employment or training) numbers and ensuring all learners can access meaningful encounters and experiences to understand their options and reach their potential
The NEW Gatsby Benchmarks include key changes that align to the National Quality in Careers Standard and the OFSTED Inspection Framework which impact student engagement in meaningful ways.
Important highlights of the updates
Emphasis is placed on tailored, inclusive careers programmes for all learners with additional support needs and disabilities.

Gatsby Benchmark 5 and Gatsby Benchmark 6 ‘Meaningful Encounters with Employers and Experiences of Workplaces' are clearly defined and aim to equip young people with the knowledge, skills and confidence to navigate their future pathways successfully.

Gatsby Benchmark 8 ‘Personal Guidance’ means that every student should have an opportunity to meet with a level 6/7 qualified career guidance practitioner. They must have at least one meeting by age 16 and another by age 18.
